Not surprisingly, it can attract loyal adherents who are committed to sharing information and building better software. It is born out of a deep distrust of large corporations, an enthusiasm for individual innovation, and a belief that community action is effective in solving problems. The open-source philosophy is about more than software. Anyone who wishes to use, redistribute, adapt, or improve the code can do so without permission or payment of any kind. In contrast, open-source software is developed collaboratively, often by volunteers, and made available for free. Its sales help fund product development, testing, marketing, salaries, and shareholder dividends. Let's compare the philosophical differences between the three packages and how those differences might affect how you purchase and use the suites.Ĭommercially licensed software, such as Microsoft Office, is developed by a single vendor. Open Source Versus Commercialīefore we look at specific features of the competing suites, it may be helpful to take a step back. Neither of the open-source alternatives provides an email or calendaring tool or an analogue for OneNote.įor the purposes of this article, we'll focus on word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation tools. The open-source options also include "Base," a database similar to Microsoft Access a tool called "Draw" that's similar to Microsoft Visio a chart-creation module called "Charts" and an equation editor called "Math." Although some desktop versions of Microsoft Office don't include the desktop-publishing application Publisher, all now offer OneNote, a note-taking and sharing tool. How do these open-source suites differ from Microsoft Office? Should your nonprofit consider one of them? To help you decide, we compared key features of the 2016 version of Microsoft's productivity suite to Apache OpenOffice 4.1 and LibreOffice 5.1.īoth open-source suites offer tools with the same names - Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), and Impress (slide presentations) - to compete with Microsoft's equivalent products - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, open-source options such as Apache OpenOffice and the Document Foundation's LibreOffice have emerged-and many users feel they are as good or better than Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office continues to dominate the productivity software marketplace. How do open-source productivity suites compare to Office 2016-and does it make sense for your organization to choose free, community-based software rather than the commercially licensed offering from Microsoft? We compare three toolsets on philosophy, price, and features to help you decide. We’re grateful for the financial support our friends there provided for this article. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Pc game hero of the kingdom 3In an interview with GameSpot, senior producer Rachel Bernstein stated that the game will be more dangerous for Sims, with death and failure a possibility during the game's quests. During quests other non-controlled Sims (even the Heroes created by the player) live in the kingdom, and will continue their life while the quest is going on, like in the story progression feature in The Sims 3. When the quest is completed, another quest must be selected and another choice of Hero Sim(s) must be made. With the quest and the Hero Sim(s) selected, the game un-pauses and the player is able to control the chosen Hero Sim(s) during the quest. For example, players are able to customize the aesthetics and layout of building interiors, but unable to alter the basic structure and shape of buildings. The character creation, simulation, and architectural aspects are significantly reduced and altered to enforce a sharper focus on role-playing-style gameplay. With the game stopped, the player has to choose a quest (quests are required to fulfill said kingdom ambition), and then choose which hero Sim they want to use.Ī player can create Hero Sims to control, each one having a profession ( monarch, knight, merchant, etc.). The major difference in the gameplay is that the game is quest-driven. Once an ambition has been completed, the play will unlock new ambitions for future playthroughs as well as unlocking freeplay for that specific kingdom. The storyline of the game is to build a successful kingdom by fulfilling the player's "Kingdom Ambition," which the player chooses at the start of the game. The Sims Medieval is a life-simulation game with action-adventure elements. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Mate translate firefox in menuIf this file was created by following the instructions in this article (was empty or it didn't exist before), you can simply remove it by using the following command:ģ. We accomplish this by using standardized web platform APIs and Web Components. Duet Date Picker can be implemented and used across any JavaScript framework or no framework at all. Why yet another date picker?ĭuet Date Picker is an open source version of Duet Design System’s accessible date picker. Recently, a friend approached asking me to share any examples of accessible calendar widgets and sure enough my friend Denis from Webaxe has a good collection here which I also listed below… all of these date pickers seem to work well with JAWS and Chrome browser and you might want to customize them further according to your needs. We can always provide alternative ways of providing the date but when a date picker is provided it must be made accessible as the date pickers give information about the day, week & year details when compared to a text field where we are forced to guess & enter the date. It is not hard to make a calendar widget accessible but still we find inaccessible date pickers in the wild that are not usable by any assistive technology. Accessible date pickers or accessible calendar widgets as they are commonly referred to, are one of the most discussed topics between developers, designers and accessibility professional.
12/30/2023 0 Comments Memoria press forums(Standard Latin exams including the National Classical Etymology Exam, National Mythology Exam, Phaedrus Contest, and the National Latin Exam.) I’m surprised to not see Latin offered by CTY, since there are many benefits to studying the language. I found these companies mentioned on the Well-Trained Mind forum. Below is an initial list of tutors that I’m considering. A few classes I may outsource include Latin and Logic. I’ve been researching online classes for my oldest son who will officially be in middle school next term. Just riding out the storm at this point. Next year and beyond is on my brain. To the OP, there are lots of packaged curricula out there-none like MP.My daughter and I are still dealing with flu-type symptoms, so I’ve been sleeping quite a bit and taking many soaks in between attempting to teach and run the house. Once the child has "learned how to learn", MP becomes awesome. It is very hard to stick to a boxed curriculum lesson plan when the child is learning all of these skill-based subjects like basic reading and writing. I LOOOOOOVE Memoria Press, however, I think I like it more starting in 3rd or 4th grade. Definitely look at Kumon books for begin with pencil practice. You may want to consider choosing subjects separately to avoid that. Now that she can write much better the writing is too simple. The problem we have is that she wasn’t ready for all of the writing but loved the stories and the questions. K for my youngest and it has a lot of great parts you could consider. I like MP and use some of their stuff but it’s very hard to find an all in one that works. Get them and make them work together! Or whatever else catches your fancy - but definitely look through all the free stuff first! There's a great thread in General Education listing a TON. Maybe you like Memoria's enrichment packages.Horizon math.and Phonics Pathways. Think of it as sampling from the smorgasbord so you get a good feeling for what all is out there. Most come with a guide or lessons broken up into weeks. And you don't have to be scared about picking and choosing from different curriculum providers. So I guess what I'm saying is what you decide now.maybe you decide for the one year? Then you reassess, make knowing what your philosophical bent is helps you narrow down the options from the insanely many to just the few that might work. And 2nd has us continuing the same path but a little harder. By 1st we had settled down with a classical-Charlotte Mason hybrid, doing the 4 year history rotation, but simple handwriting exercises, good chapter books, and oral narration. When my son started wanting more, I looked first through the free curriculum lists to see if I could find what I wanted for Kindergarten: and I did :) I found MEP math and the 1st edition guides for Wee Folk Art (literature, art, crafts, etc). We're doing 2nd grade this year, but when I started thinking about school for my then-4yo, I knew I didn't want "school", kwim? I wanted more organic and gentle, so I gravitated that way. There are a lot of options, definitely! Taking the time to figure out what exactly you want helps you narrow it down. Not only do you get a wealth of options to look through, but around Sept/Oct people start posting what isn't quite working and why. Around this time everyone starts posting what they're using next year. :) Take some time, hang out on the pre-k/K board. My son is turning three this year, so we have a lot of time, but we are planning on moving next year, and I don't want to be figuring all this stuff out last minute! During six close calls of the Cuban Missile Crisis, there were times when the government did move America into DEFCON 2. has ever gotten, however, was during the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis. DEFCON levels are important to understand, but they aren’t something to panic over.Īlthough many would like to know the current DEFCON level, it isn’t something that is generally made publicly available. There have been continued provocative tests conducted by North Korea, aggressive maneuvers performed by China, and, most notably, the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. It’s no secret that over the last several months, the United States has had to pay more attention to the threat of nuclear weapons. This is where we want to be at all times because there is no legitimate threat of a nuclear war. DEFCON 5ĭescription: The lowest state of readiness available. This is the level normally entered into after peacetime when intel suggests that a threat could be developing. Readiness: The Armed Forces are prepared to deploy in under six hours.ĭescription: This is the final straw before a nuclear war. A nuclear weapon has either already been launched or it is imminent and inevitable at this point. DEFCON 1ĭescription: A response is expected immediately, and war is here. Without further ado, get to know each DEFCON level and what they mean for our safety from nuclear weapons. It’s great that we have the DEFCON system and that it is taken seriously by our nation and others who look for ways to defer the use of such warfare at all costs. The prospect of a nuclear war between the United States and any country is not a good one. Throughout the years, there have been many examples in popular culture where “DEFCON 5” was used to describe panic, but it is the lowest level of threat there is. Contrary to popular belief, DEFCON 5 isn’t the bad one. There’s a good chance you’re using DEFCON levels incorrectly.A DEFCON level can be used to apply to the state of a worldwide nuclear war, assigned to a specific area such as a base, and anything in between.Though we may use the system to exchange intel, the DEFCON level system is used domestically, not internationally, as a gauge for nuclear war. The levels applied are used by America but not the rest of the world. Here are a few important points to remember when reading a DEFCON level: Some of this stems from the fact that, although the system was created in 1959, it wasn’t until 2006 that it was declassified for the general public. It’s important to understand each DEFCON level because there are some misconceptions involved with the system. Starting at $1,150 and available in 11- and 13-inch sizes, these machines use carbon fiber to achieve an even lighter design (under two pounds for the 11-inch model). But there is the new Pro line, and it more or less picks up where the Z left off. In a sense, the Z is still dead: to this day, there is no Z series in Sony's lineup. There was a clear hole in Sony's lineup, and diehards were left disappointed, with no clear upgrade path once it came time to retire the ol' Z. Then it was discontinued, only to be replaced by mid-range models with lesser specs.
